Courses
The Bachelor of Music Education degree course is taught and administered jointly by the RIAM, DIT Conservatory of Music and Drama and Trinity College Dublin. Its principal purpose is to meet the challenge of developing the role of the qualified secondary school teacher, thus ensuring the recognition of music as a post-primary curriculum subject.
The B Mus Ed course offers students an exciting and innovative approach to music by integrating the three main recognised areas of music education in Ireland performing, teaching and musicology.
The course is four years duration. A comprehensive training in music and education is provided and Irish and European History are taught as complimentary subjects. The degree, validated by Trinity College Dublin is also recognised by the Secondary Teachers' Registration Council.
In addition to secondary school teaching, graduates of the course can avail of a range of career opportunities, from performance and composition to instrumental teaching. Opportunities also exist for further studies in musicology and education.
