Maeve Broderick was a student of Prof Max Rostal’s Masterclass at the Cologne State Music Hochschule. She was the first Irish student to be awarded German Government Scholarships. She continued her post-graduate studies with Prof Hermann Zitzmann and Prof Sandor Vegh, Robert Schumann Konservatorium, Duesseldorf.
Maeve’s professional experience includes being a member of the Guerzenich Orchestra,Cologne; Solo and Duo concerts in Dublin and Belfast with Dr Havelock Nelson; RTÉ and BBC broadcasts, including the complete Brahms Sonatas with Dr John O’Conor.
Between 1973 and 1975 Maeve was Senior Tutor at Ulster College of Music, Belfast. From 1973 to 1991 she was Professor of Violin at the Royal Irish Academy of Music. In the year 1983 to 1984 Maeve was Visiting tutor at Chetham’s School of Music, Manchester. Between 1984 and 1986 she was Tutor at Spohr Akademie Summer Course, Lahr. From 1991 to 1996 she was again Senior Visiting Tutor at Chetham’s School of Music, Manchester. In 1997 Maeve was re-appointed to the Royal Irish Academy of Music.
Teaching successes include many Feis Ceoil Winners; Finalists in RTÉ Young Musicians of the Future; Lombard and Ulster Awards; Winner of the Heineken Violin; Arts Council Bursaries; leaders and co-leaders in the JIYO and IYO; BA Performance Degree Graduates of the Royal Irish Academy with First Class Honours; many scholarships within the Academy and to US and UK Colleges; former students employed in the National Symphony Orchestra, the Irish Chamber Orchestra and Irish Baroque Orchestra, as well as the London Symphony Orchestra and other professional groups.
