Wind, Brass and Percussion Faculty

Woodwind
The minimum age of prospective applicants are as followings:

Flute – 8 years of age
Oboe/Cor Anglais – 10 years of age
Clarinet – 10 years of age
Bassoon – 10 years of age
Saxophone  – 10 years of age
Recorder – 6-7 years of age

The above ages are general minimum guidelines except in exceptional circumstances and are subject to physical suitability.

  • Applications will be considered on an individual basis.
  • Auditions for absolute beginners will generally take between 5 – 7 minutes and will include aural tests, clapping, singing and an assessment of physical suitability where appropriate.
  • In most cases applicants who are not beginners will be required to perform 2 pieces.  [The audition will generally take 5 – 10 minutes].
  • The audition panel may ask applicants to perform a short sight-reading test. Non beginners should be prepared to undergo a possible short sight-reading test; the standard asked will be appropriate to the applicant’s current level.
  • Please note timings assigned are only guidelines and the audition panel reserves the right to deviate from these timings. Some auditions may be longer or shorter than the stated guidelines; this is due to the specific determinations as deemed necessary by the auditioning panel for each specific candidate.

Brass

French Horn –  8 years of age
Trumpet/Cornet – 7 years of age
Trombone – 10 years of age
Euphonium – 10 years of age
Tuba – 10 years of age
Tenor Horn – 8  years of age
