Music Theatre & Popular Singing

This syllabus is an alternative to Classical Singing. The emphasis is on acting through singing, combined with the necessary technical development and character analysis to achieve a convincing performance. 

Requirements and Structure

Music Theatre exams consist of the following elements:

• 3 songs (60 marks: 20x3)
• scales & technical requirements (10 marks) 
• presentation (10 marks)
• general knowledge (10 marks)
• musicianship tests (10 marks)

Music Theatre Exams run from Grade III through to Senior Certificate. 

Marking

All graded exams are marked out of 100. The pass mark is 60–69, pass with Merit 70–79, pass with Honours 80–89, and pass with Distinction 90+.
