RIAM Intermediate Orchestra
The RIAM Intermediate Orchestra was formed in 1988 by its current conductor, James Cavanagh. The average age of its members, who come from all over Ireland, is 14.
The Orchestra rehearses at the RIAM every Saturday and, under the expert guidance of its inspiring and dynamic conductor, has become one of the most accomplished and versatile groups of its kind in Ireland.
It has travelled abroad on a number of occasions to countries such as Switzerland, Norway and Germany, participating in a variety of international youth music festivals. The Orchestra has also performed in almost every county in Ireland, including on stage at the National Concert Hall.
On the education front, the RIAM Intermediate Orchestra has given numerous entertaining and informative “meet the orchestra” presentations for their peers in schools and arts centres around Ireland, including The Ark, Dublin. James Cavanagh and his young charges have also contributed in their own inimitable exciting style to the National Concert Hall’s Learning and Participation Programme over many years.
