Young Scholar Programme

RIAM’s Young Scholar Programme is an immersive programme to support highly motivated school-age students who may wish to pursue music at third level with a view to making it their profession.

Approximately 15-20 Young Scholars are chosen from amongst RIAM’s student body each year by audition for extra coaching in chamber music, public performances, international exchanges and mentoring.

RIAM Young Scholars have access to the following opportunities:

  • Free chamber music coaching
  • Performance opportunities
  • Free tickets to RIAM and other events
  • Masterclass participation
  • Platform/presentation coaching
  • Mentoring from music and other professionals
  • International performance exchanges
  • Funding for international competitions
  • Free recording
  • Access to accompanists

Selection process

Each year the Heads of Faculty assess students who wish to be part of this programme in a December audition, with the purpose of balancing the Scholars across a range of ages and achieving faculty balance.

From this audition, approximately 20 students are chosen to receive additional supports.
