RIAM Young Composers' Summer Project

Young composers (and would-be composers) age 13-18 are invited to spend a week working with Composer and RIAM Faculty member Jonathan Nangle, as they explore the vast possibilities of using technology to create their own compositions.

Participants will work remotely with RIAM musicians to learn more about writing for different instruments, and build an excellent foundation to begin a Summer of musical creativity, as they learn to realise their music with the devices, resources, and technology they already have at home.

Monday 29th June - Friday 3rd July | 10:00am-4:00pm

RIAM Virtual Youth Choir Summer Project

The RIAM Virtual Youth Choir Summer Project invites singers age 13-18 to spend a week taking part in a wide range talks and workshops, from conducting and musicianship skills, to vocal masterclasses, and working collaboratively on a socially-distanced singing project with solo opportunities in all four voice parts. This is an exciting, and hugely ambitious project, giving young people who love to sing the chance to accomplish something truly extraordinary this Summer.

Selected soloists will also get to take part in a masterclass with soprano and RIAM Vocal faculty member Lynda Lee, working with her to put the finishing touches on their solo before the final recording.

RIAM Young Pianists' Virtual Summer Intensive

A fantastic opportunity for young pianists to train remotely with RIAM Keyboard Faculty members, to bring their performance to the next level and develop the skills every musician needs in their toolbox.

Throughout the week, Professor Thérèse Fahy will work with pianists on their chosen piece of repertoire, sharing valuable insight on approaching the piece and providing solo coaching sessions. Professor Anthony Byrne will lead afternoon sessions on practical piano playing, guiding students on elements of technique most relevant to them, and helping them to apply his expert teachings with a wealth of learning techniques and exercises.

Tunes for Toddlers

These early-years music classes for ages 2-4 years use singingmovement, and play to build the very beginnings of a solid musical foundation—the perfect stepping-stone to RIAM Pre-Instrumental classes or simply a lifelong love of music!

Sessions are led by the always-lovely Sophie Lee, whose friendly approach and research-backed format is inspired by the Kodály Method and Orff Approach. Studies have demonstrated the wide-ranging benefits that music-making can have for toddlers and parents together, from learning and developmental benefits, to enhancing social skills, parent-child bonding, and improving well-being.
