RIAM’s Lifelong Learning offers a wide selection of professional development courses for music teachers and professionals. 

We are proud to offer programmes of study that are designed to inspire and refresh your working lives, and give you the opportunity to meet new friends and colleagues. 

Current teaching skills/CPD courses include: 

Piano Teachers 

  • Key Skills – a one day course covering the pieces of the RIAM Piano Exam syllabus 

All music teachers 

  • Teacher’s Toolkit – a ten week course on the practicalities and principles of music pedagogy 

  • Musicianship Clinic – an 8 week course on teaching theory to music students 

  • RIAM Teacher Summer Conference – guest speakers present seminars on topics on key interest to teachers in this one day event (details to follow

Conducting skills

  • Conducting E-Course – in six modules, this flexible course enhances your conducting technique and answers practical questions on planning, arranging and developing ensembles 
  • Foundation in Conducting – a 24 week course of group course, developing good conducting technique, suitable for those who are proficient on an instrument but are inexperienced/beginner conductors
