Gender in Orchestral Leadership Workshop
Friday, October 16th at 2.00-3.00 pm
The RIAM is proud to present an online workshop which shines the spotlight on the issue of gender in orchestral leadership.
Featuring Sarah Sew (RIAM Head of Strings and Chamber Music), David Collins (RIAM Head of Woodwind, Brass and Percussion), Sarah Quinn (Sub-Principal Second Violin, London Symphony Orchestra), Martin Johnson (Section Leader, RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra), conductor and music educator, Lynsey Callaghan, and RIAM tertiary students, Erin Hennessey (violin) and Peadar Ó Loinsigh (cello), the online discussion will explore topics including the reasons to implement blind auditions and gender balance in the orchestral profession.
The workshop features a screened audition "mini-masterclass" to demonstrate blind audition techniques, and will also include discussion stemming from RIAM's research into gender in orchestral leadership, as part of "NEWS in MAP", a collaborative EU project with Conservatorio di Musica Santa Cecilia Roma, European University Cyprus, Yaşar Üniversitesi and the Association Européenne des Conservatoires, Académies de Musique et Musikhochschulen (AEC).
