David Collins appointed Head of Wind, Brass & Percussion at RIAM
We are delighted to announce the appointment of trumpeter David Collins as our new Head of Wind, Brass and Percussion.
Currently on the trumpet teaching faculty of both RIAM and TU Dublin, David has recently moved back to Dublin from Northern Ireland where he held the position of 2nd Trumpet and Principal Cornet with the Ulster Orchestra in Belfast from 2016-2018. As a trumpeter David works regularly with the Irish Chamber Orchestra, RTÉ National Symphony and Concert Orchestras. As Artistic Director of Dublin Brass Week, David engages international brass soloists and teachers to give masterclasses and recitals at both the RIAM and across Dublin City every two years.
Commenting on the announcement, Deborah Kelleher, Director of the RIAM, said: “I am delighted that David Collins, a dynamic and visionary performer and educator, has joined the RIAM as Head of Wind, Brass and Percussion. David brings a wealth of international perspective to the role, especially in looking at the future needs of our profession and how we must train our students to meet those needs. We look forward to implementing new curricula and forging exciting partnerships under his leadership.”
