Reporting to:  Head of Programmes, Research and Academics

Role type:  Fixed term specified purpose (maternity leave cover contract) Full Time based on 35 hours net per week 

Annual leave:   29 Days annual leave per annum  

Salary Scale:  Based on point 1 of the Grade V (Staff Officer) Pay Scale (appendix 1) 

Expected start date: Beginning of November 2025 

The nature of this role will involve on-site/office work but WFH is also accommodated where possible in line with our Flexible and Remote Working Policy

ROLE DESCRIPTION:

We are seeking a highly organised and proactive Temporary Programmes Manager to join the Royal Irish Academy of Music to take up a maternity leave cover contract. As the Temporary Programmes Manager, you will play a crucial role in providing comprehensive administrative assistance to the Head of Programmes, Research and Academics and the Heads of Faculty from the 3rd/4th Level office. Your exceptional attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and ability to work collaboratively will contribute to the smooth functioning of the RIAM and the success of our faculty and students. 

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES:

General Programmes Administration

Programmes Manager for general, holistic, and academic components, which includes: 

Assist with managing academic classes and electives (as above) 

  • Holistic coordination (timetable, engaging externs, arranging payments) 
  • Assisting with ‘Capstone Project’ coordination (collating proposals, following up with students, managing presentation component) 
  • Timetable (annual timetable management working with Facilities and Buildings Manager) 
  • Student Attendance/External Engagements/Extenuating Circumstances (managing the process and communicating to staff) 
  • Assignment submission (managing a process of student submission) 
  • Coordinating Master’s electives (managing process for incoming students including collating info about choices) 
  • Take and disseminate meeting minutes 

Performance Components Administration 

Administrative assistance for performance components, which includes: 

  • Assist with development of new processes 
  • Accompanist allocation information 
  • Assist with managing ‘Performing in Context’ electives (managing elective process, contact students, log and communicate electives, attendance, liaising with teachers, collating grades) 
  • ‘Masterclasses’ and ‘Performance Spotlight’ payment processing 
  • Administrative assistance with Faculty Performance classes and second study electives 
  • Additional ad hoc duties as reasonably required by Heads of Faculties 
  • Support Doctoral Studies coordinator as required to include scheduling exams 
  • Support B Mus Ed Coordinator as required 
  • Programme student support (e.g. extenuating circumstances, queries etc,) 
     

TRAINING, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS: 

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Proven experience of at least 5 years in an administrative support role in 3rd level education
  • Strong organisational and time management skills with the ability to prioritise tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including exceptional attention to detail.
  • High level of proficiency in Microsoft Office (SharePoint/advanced excel) and familiarity with student database management systems.
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
  • Collaborative mind-set with the ability to work effectively within a team and build positive relationships.
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and work in a fast-paced environment.

Music Therapy Teacher (Temporary Contract)

Job Title:  Music Therapy Teacher (Temporary Contract)

Reporting to:  Head of Junior RIAM, Adult Division and Lifelong Learning

Role type:  Specified Purpose fixed-term contract; part-time 7.5 hours per week to cover parental leave. Start date expected to begin early November 2025.

Salary Scale:  Based on point 1 of the assistant lecturer pay scale (new entrant); see Appendix 1

ROLE DESCRIPTION:

The Royal Irish Academy of Music invites applications for a Music Therapist to provide parental leave cover. The post holder will be responsible for the referral, delivery, coordination, and management of the Music Therapy Clinic. The role includes direct clinical work, clinic administration, and potential involvement in outreach to day facilities and the delivery of workshops to internal and external teaching communities. The current clinic schedule includes Saturdays, with flexibility to arrange appointment times with individual clients. The position requires 7.5 secured clinic contact hours per week, with the possibility of additional external hours on approval.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage all aspects of the Music Therapy Clinic, including referrals, scheduling, administration, and service coordination.
  • Conduct client assessments and develop individualised treatment plans.
  • Deliver individual and group therapy sessions using appropriate clinical and musical approaches.
  • Maintain accurate records, evaluate outcomes, and adjust interventions as necessary.
  • Liaise and collaborate with colleagues, educators, healthcare professionals, and caregivers.
  • Plan and deliver workshops for staff, students, and external partners as required.
  • Undertake outreach work in day facilities or other community settings when appropriate.
  • Adhere to professional and ethical standards, including confidentiality and safeguarding policies.
  • Engage in continuing professional development and supervision.

Skills & Experience

  • Master’s degree in Music Therapy
  • Professional registration with IACAT.
  • Demonstrable clinical experience in healthcare, educational, or community settings.
  • High level of proficiency in voice and at least one accompanying instrument (e.g., guitar or piano).
  • Excellent organisational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of an academic staff team.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and collaborate with clinicians outside RIAM where appropriate.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Experience in clinic or service management.
  • Experience delivering workshops or presentations in advocacy of music therapy
  • Experience delivering reports and evaluations where appropriate to MDT members/caregivers
  • Familiarity with music therapy-related technology and software

As RIAM is an institution that has students from all over Ireland, the position may involve Saturday teaching and teaching after 3pm on weekdays. As such, all applicants must confirm this availability prior to interview.

The successful candidate will be required to complete Garda vetting and mandatory health and safety training prior to commencement of the role.

DRAMA & COMMUNICATION EXAMINER POSITION

The Royal Irish Academy of Music is seeking applications from experienced and enthusiastic candidates to join the RIAM Exams panel of Drama & Communication Examiners.  

Closing date for applications: 29th September 2025. 

Exam sessions are held three times per year: generally, these sessions are Spring (Feb–Mar), Summer (April–June), and Winter (Nov–Dec). The syllabus covers all Drama & Communication Exams material. Examiners will work closely with Chief Examiner and the RIAM Exams admin staff. Applicants are expected to be familiar with the new RIAM Drama & Communication syllabus.

Applicants will be shortlisted for interview. Interviews are scheduled to take place in RIAM, week commencing 20th October. Following successful interview, online and live training will take place. Subject to successful training, candidates will then be invited initially to join the panel of examiners on a probationary contract.  

EDUCATION 
The ideal candidate will have: 

  • Strong Drama education background
  • Qualifications in drama, literature and or a performance-based subject
  • Relevant teaching qualification and or equivalent experience of a wide range of Drama & Communication teaching
  • Knowledge of RIAM Exam syllabus and exam system is recommended
  • Experience as an actor, performer, director, playwright or other relevant industry experience is welcome.
  • Competence as a performer

*Please note: as part of the interview, you may be expected to perform a specific test piece taken from syllabus. You will be sent this in advance of the interview.

MUSIC EXAMINER POSITION

The Royal Irish Academy of Music seeks candidates to join the RIAM Exams panel of music examiners. Deadline for applications is Monday 29 September, 2025. 

Exam sessions are held three times per year, in the form of both live and digital recorded exams: generally, these sessions are Spring (Feb–Mar), Summer (April–June), and Winter (Nov–Dec). Training and examining work will focus on both digital recorded exams and live exams. Syllabi cover all family of instruments and live exams take place throughout the island of Ireland. Examiners will work closely with senior examiners and the RIAM Exams admin staff.  

Applicants will be shortlisted for interview, which will take place on October 22nd, 2025 in the Royal Irish Academy of Music 36–38 Westland Row. Training will take place in November 2025. Subject to successful training, candidates will be invited to join the panel of examiners on a probationary contract.  

EDUCATION
The ideal candidate

  • Will be a competent musician
  • Have a strong music education background
  • Broad knowledge of instruments outside of their own area of expertise
  • Instrumentalists and vocalists must have a strong basic command of piano (minimum standard grade V) as aural tests are played by the examiner during exams*
  • Teaching experience is necessary
  • Knowledge of RIAM Exam syllabi and exam system is recommended
