Entry Requirements (Undergraduate)
We teach all classes through English. If your first language is not English and you have not been educated through the medium of English, you must have one of the following English language qualifications:
- Cambridge English Qualifications - Minimum overall score of 162-169 on the Cambridge English scale, i.e. minimum Grade B2 First or Proficiency Certificate. Recommended Sub-scores: minimum 160 per paper.
- Duo Lingo English Test: Minimum overall score of 95, no individual sub-scores below 90
- International English Language Testing System (IELTS Academic) IELTS 5.5. Recommended no individual band below 5.5 (Undergraduate)
- Pearson English International Certification Minimum overall score of 46-50, recommended no section scores below 42-45 (Undergraduate courses)
- Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL iBT) Minimum overall score of 55-60 with a minimum score in writing of 16 (and no skill below 14–16).
- Trinity College London - Trinity ISE II (B2) with at least a pass in each skill category.
Your Principal Study should be of a standard equivalent to Grade 7 with Distinction of the RIAM Exams, or the ABRSM.

All BMus, DipMus and Access candidates will have to sit on a live, online invigilated entrance exam consisting of:
- a one hour aural paper where candidates will be listening to an audio track and have to identify chords, intervals, rhythmic and melodic dictation.
- a two hour written exam where candidates will have to identify intervals, write inversions, transpose, harmonize, analyse chords and write a small composition demonstrating understanding of tempo, melody phrasing and expression markings.
The overall all expected level of musicianship/music theory of the applicants is RIAM Grade 7 or ABRSM equivalent.
The entrance exam, both aural and written papers will be sat as follows :
- Round 1 applicants : TBC from 9 am to 1 pm Irish time (online live invigilated exams)
- Round 2 applicants : TBC from 9 am to 1 pm Irish time (online live invigilated exams)
Details of the Zoom call connection are sent 2 weeks ahead of the exam to all applicants by email.
