Research at RIAM

Here at RIAM, we are curious about everything to do with music, including:

  • how it is created, performed, and received

  • how it is taught, learned, and experienced

  • its technical aspects

  • its socio-cultural and historical contexts

  • its impact on health and quality of life

RIAM staff and students are encouraged to:

  • pursue their research interests

  • make connections between research and practice

  • be reflective practitioners

RIAM staff and students enjoy access to a wide range of print and electronic resources via the RIAM Library. The Library also holds Special Collections of national significance.

As the first music performance doctorate of its kind in Ireland, the RIAM’s DMusPerf programme stresses excellence in musical performance and research. Find more details about the course requirements and application procedure for the DMusPerf Programme at this link: DMusPerf

The RIAM has identified 4 key research areas which act as a focus for staff and students. These are the RIAM’s Research Strands.

RIAM research outputs, including DMusPerf dissertations, are available online in the TARA research repository.
