We were thrilled to welcome Kenny Rampton and Carlos Henriquez from the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra (JLCO) to work with students from RIAM, MTU Cork School of Music, and DCU in masterclass this week.
Kenny Rampton is an acclaimed jazz trumpeter and a longtime member of the JLCO under Wynton Marsalis. He has performed extensively on Broadway, in film scores, and with artists like Ray Charles, Aretha Franklin, and The Mingus Big Band. Rampton is also the trumpet voice of the iconic Sesame Street theme and the founder of Jazz Outreach Initiative.
Henriquez is a Grammy-nominated double bassist, and in 1998 he joined the Wynton Marsalis Septet and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra, touring the world and playing on more than 25 albums. Celebrated as a key figure in Latin jazz, he has performed with diverse artists including Chucho Valdés, Paco De Lucía, Tito Puente, the Marsalis Family, Willie Nelson, Bob Dylan, Stevie Wonder, Lenny Kravitz, and Marc Anthony.
We were also thrilled to welcome music students and professionals from RIAM, DCU, the National Youth Orchestra of Ireland, TU Dublin, MTU Cork School of Music, UCD, Queen's University Belfast, the Garda Band and the Army Band to watch the masterclasses.
Sincere thanks to Wynton Marsalis and Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra for taking the time to visit RIAM as part of their EU tour and share their exceptional insight and experience with Irish music students.
