Published: 28th Aug, 2025

RIAM, along with its founding partners, is pleased to announce the sixth instalment of the Doctors in Performance Festival Conference taking place at the Sibelius Academy, in the University of the Arts, Helsinki. The conference invites music‑makers and researchers to join and re‑positions performance at the heart of research, cultivating bold ideas and rigorous artistry through live presentation and dialogue.

Since its launch in 2014, DIP has rotated through key European music institutions, RIAM hosted it in Dublin in 2016, followed by The Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre in Vilnius in 2018, The Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre, Tallinn in 2021 and The Royal Academy of Music, London in 2023. In 2025, it returns to Helsinki, offering a platform for performers, composers and researchers to share artistic research in recital, lecture‑recital or paper form, all delivered in English.

RIAM is delighted to have three students perform lecture recitals across the conference;

Connor Wilcox: Reviving Roseingrave: harmony and interpretative opportunities in Thomas Roseingrave’s Harpsichord Suite No. 2 in C minor

Grace Sun Park: From禪(zen) to 線(line) to仙(transcendence) Rethinking the piano: Avant-garde piano performance as re-creation of artistic identity

Órán Halligan: “The influence of traditional melody on the solo pianoforte works of Johann Bernhard Logier.

And a huge congratulations to Professor Denise Neary who is on the conference steering committee, for developing an exciting programme of events. As alumni hosts and longstanding partners of DIP, RIAM shares the commitment to performance-centred research. Our students and faculty are part of the global continuum that shapes and sustains this meaningful dialogue between artistry and inquiry.
