RIAM was delighted to host conductor, chamber musician, and LA Co Principal Cellist, Andrew Shulman yesterday at the Vernon Studio for a masterclass with our third level students, Ira Schwitzer, Andrés Vaccaro, Doireann Ni Aodáin, Anna Varga and Ke Lin. Our piano accompanist for the day was the wonderful Dearbhla Brosnan.

Andrew is a Professor at the University of Southern California. Before departing for the USA in 2002 Mr Shulman was the Principal Cello of Philharmonia Orchestra London (22yrs), Cellist of the Britten String Quartet and since 2002, Principal Cellist of Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra. He was also the first non-US Citizen to win the coveted Piatigorsky Prize.

We are privileged that Mr Shulman came to share his knowledge and vast experience with the third level Cello students at the RIAM alongside Masterclass visits to Guildhall School of Music and Drama, London, Royal College of Music, London and RNCM in Manchester.
