RIAM175 Homecoming Concerts Announced

Published: 31st Mar, 2023

As part of our ongoing 175th Anniversary celebrations, we welcome home some of our most distinguished alumni for our ‘Homecoming Concerts’, a series of recitals connecting some of Ireland’s finest talents to their musical alma mater.

Ailish Tynan, Robin Tritschler and Iain Burnside

Wed 26 April, 7:30 pm  |  Vernon Studio, RIAM

RIAM alumni Ailish Tynan and Robin Tritschler are joined by visiting artist Iain Burnside in a programme of songs that resonate with their training in vocal studies at the Academy. Recognised as outstanding and critically acclaimed artists in the areas of opera and art song, they have curated a programme of charm and appeal that includes some of the best-loved works written for voice and piano by Schubert, Schumann, Mendelssohn, Britten, Wallace, Balfe, and many more.

Finghin Collins & Dearbhla Collins

Thurs 25 May, 7:30 pm  |  Vernon Studio, RIAM

The summer RIAM alumnus Finghin Collins completed his Bachelor studies at the RIAM, he went on to win the Clara Haskil International Piano Competition, establishing him as the foremost Irish concert pianist of his generation. Finghin is joined in this piano duo concert by his equally distinguished sibling, Dearbhla Collins, herself a pre-eminent vocal coach and collaborative pianist. Works by Irish composers Sean Doherty and RIAM professor Joan Trimble sit alongside the great pieces of the duo repertoire, such as Franz Schubert's monumental Fantasie in F minor, in this concert which explores the limits of repertoire for piano duos and duets.

RTÉ Concert Orchestra with Celine Byrne

Sun 15 October, 7:30 pm  |  Whyte Recital Hall

Introducing orchestral music to new audiences since 1948, the RTÉ Concert Orchestra is celebrating its 75th Anniversary in 2023. The orchestra's strong connection with the public saw it voted the World's Favourite Orchestra in 2015, and its eclectic programming has seen the RTÉ CO perform with artists as diverse as Luciano Pavarotti, Lang Lang, Lalo Schifrin, Marvin Hamlisch and Cleo Laine.

In this Homecoming concert, the orchestra will be joined by its Associate Principal Conductor Gavin Maloney and internationally renowned soprano Celine Byrne, both RIAM alumni, for an eclectic programme that includes the music of Haydn, Richard Strauss and Webern/Bach alongside operatic and popular favourites.

Joining our alumni is special guest Margot Troup. At just 12 years old, Margot is already a rising star and ready to make her live debut with the RTÉ Concert Orchestra.
