Café Zimmermann at the Academy

Taking its name and inspiration from the legendary Zimmermannsche Kaffeehaus in Leipzig, this new three-concert series at RIAM places a special focus on the music of
JS Bach.

Gottfried Zimmermann’s fashionable coffee house was a cultural hub and the scene of numerous concerts. It also served as the performing venue for the Collegium Musicum, largely made up of students and founded by Telemann. In 1729 Bach became its director and ushered in a new golden age of informal performances, often featuring new music by Johann Sebastian and his musical peers.

In 2027, RIAM artists look forward to evoking the welcoming and adventurous spirit of Café Zimmermann over three Fridays in February.
