Beethoven takes centre stage with his enduring legacy and radical impact on the chamber music genre. ‘Echoes of Beethoven’ presents the composer’s own revolutionary works alongside music he inspired, tracing a direct line from his era through music history to contemporary works of the present day.
The highly acclaimed Chiaroscuro Quartet opens ChamberFest Dublin 2027 performing one of the pinnacles of the string quartet repertoire, Beethoven’s profound Op 132 String Quartet alongside movements from JS Bach’s towering Die Kunst der Fuge, anda sublime work by a youthful Felix Mendelssohn, his Op 13 String Quartet written in 1827, the year of Beethoven’s death.
Written in the shadows of Haydn and Mozart, Beethoven’s six Quartets in Op. 18 were composed between 1796 and 1800 and dedicated to Prince Lobkowitz, one of Beethoven’s earliest patrons.
Programme
JS Bach: Contrapunctus I, IV, IX from Die Kunst der Fuge (Art of Fugue), BWV1080
