Dublin Piano Series: Passionate Variations

Now firmly rooted in the city’s musical calendar, the Dublin Piano Series returns this season to proudly shine the spotlight on the life-affirming music of Ludwig van Beethoven. Over this year’s five-concert series, audiences can look forward to delving into a treasure trove of music for solo piano, piano duet and two pianos by the composer and other musical giants who have both inspired and taken inspiration from this iconic artist. 

Season highlights include his “Pathetique”, “Moonlight”, “Waldstein” and “Appassionata” piano sonatas beloved of audiences the world over; concerts underpinning the breadth of his output for the instrument featuring ballades, variations, fantasies and some lesser-known gems for piano duet, and a programme featuring late sonatas by Haydn, Prokofiev and Beethoven.

The Dublin Piano Series culminates in a spectacular season end with Liszt’s virtuosic two-piano transcription of the composer’s final symphony, his gargantuan “Choral”.   

Dublin Piano Series 2027 brings together members of the RIAM’s renowned Keyboard Faculty whose artistry and mentorship shape the next generation of performers. A very special musical pilgrimage in the company of an array of exceptional pianists who are as celebrated on the concert stage as they are in music education in Ireland.
