Event Description
A midwinter’s evening of presence, featuring the wisdom of bestselling Irish writer Michael Harding interwoven with the haunting fiddle-led ambient soundscapes of Fohn - set against a backdrop of slow-moving imagery to evoke the stillness and beauty of the winter landscape.
Across a series of themes, Michael Harding brings his distinctive warmth, wit and wisdom to reflections on what it means to be human, while Fohn’s immersive music unfolds alongside large-scale, slowly evolving images of the natural world — creating moments in which sound, image and silence can simply be experienced.
An intimate evening of words, music and stillness for the darkest time of the year.

Michael Harding is a bestselling writer, podcaster and commentator. He was born in Cavan, Ireland in 1953 and has received both the Stewart Parker Award and an RTÉ Arts Show/Bank of Ireland Award for his theatre work. The Abbey Theatre has staged Strawboys (1987), Una Pooka (1989), Misogynist (1990), Hubert Murray’s Widow (1993) and Sour Grapes (1997). The Tinker’s Curse was nominated for Best New Play, at the Irish Times Irish Theatre Awards 2007. His fiction includes Priest (1986) and The Trouble with Sarah Gullion (1988). Fohn is the solo project of violinist, multi-instrumentalist and producer Tom Connolly. His music blends traditional Irish fiddle with ambient 4 electronics, field recordings and experimental soundscapes. His acclaimed debut album Seanteach explores Connolly’s deep connection to Connemara, where his father’s family is from, drawing on summers spent on the island of Maighinis and weaving together family memory, landscape, folklore and ideas of belonging and displacement. His second album, Porcelain, was released in 2026. Connolly is also a member of experimental group Quade and meditative folk group Twelfth House.
