Join us for a special evening of music marking more than 30 years of the Music Instrument Fund of Ireland (MIFI), the charity that has given some of Ireland's most talented young string players access to exceptional instruments, and the confidence to build a career in music.
The concert celebrates the vision of the late Professor Ronald Masin, whose belief in the potential of young Irish musicians led him to found MIFI in 1995. Since then, MIFI has placed 16 fine instruments with 112 young musicians, creating a legacy which has transformed the professional string playing landscape in Ireland.
This is an opportunity to hear MIFI recipients past and present perform alongside distinguished guest musicians in the gorgeous acoustic of RIAM’s Whyte Recital Hall, in a programme ranging from Mozart's String Quintet and Brahms's String Sextet to Mendelssohn's Octet and Borodin's Nocturne, closing with the full string orchestra.
The programme also features John Kinsella's Elegy for Strings, with performance materials kindly sourced from the Contemporary Music Centre as it marks 40 years supporting new music from Ireland. The piece was commissioned in 2010 by Maria Kelemen, Director of Young European Strings School of Music.
Programme:
Mozart String Quintet No. 3 in C Major, KV. 515
Brahms String Sextet No. 2 in G Major, Op. 36
Borodin String Quartet No. 2 in D Major, 3rd movement, Nocturne
Mendelssohn String Octet in E flat Major, Op. 20 • John Kinsella Elegy for Strings
Tickets: €20–€30
An evening of outstanding live chamber music from musicians whose careers have been shaped by MIFI's support, in one of Dublin's most beautiful recital spaces.
This event will be photographed, filmed and recorded.
