Welcome to the RIAM!
Due to the popularity of the Face the Music documentary on RTÉ One, lots of parents and caregivers have been in touch asking how their children can become a student of the Royal Irish Academy of Music. We are pleased to outline our current availability in our Early Years programmes beginning in September 2023.
Early Years (Age 6 – 12)
Early years students are accepted into RIAM without audition. These classes build and develop the young student's musical skills and awareness and offer a pathway towards auditioning for individual tuition. The introductory piano, violin, brass, recorder and guitar classes provide an excellent foundation for beginners who wish to progress with keyboard, string or wind, brass & percussion instrument later. Many of the students you see in Face the Music have started at RIAM in pre-instrumental, magic melodies, or an introductory group class.
Upon completion of a two-year introductory programme, students may be advised to audition for individual tuition in Junior RIAM.
Junior RIAM are excited to announce a limited number of available places in the following Early Years programmes. In most cases, places are limited to one or two per class listed below. All other classes are full. Places are allocated on a first-come basis.
