Event Description

Passion, coupled with precision, unheard-of expressivity and pure emotion characterise the concerts of the Belcea Quartet. With the Romanian violinist Corina Belcea, the Korean-Australian Suyeon Kang on second violin, the Polish violist Krzysztof Chorzelski and the French cellist Antoine Lederlin, four different artistic provenances meet and unite to create unique excellence.

The 1909 Five Movements for String Quartet, exquisite miniatures by Anton Webern, are performed alongside Britten’s Second String Quartet, written to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the death of a composer he greatly revered - Henry Purcell, and premiered at the Wigmore Hall in November 1945.With their recordings of Beethoven’s string quartets having been described by Gramophone as “single-mindedly fathoming the emotional recesses of the composer’s psyche”, audiences can look forward to a rousing conclusion to this concert with a truly special performance of Beethoven’s magnificent last quartet.

A thrilling opportunity to hear one of the world’s greatest string quartets of our time in the intimate setting of the Whyte Recital Hall.
