Led and directed by the RIAM’s dynamic Head of Strings, Diane Daly, the RIAMCO brings a freshness and vibrancy to the repertoire, incorporating elements of memorisation, movement, improvisation, lighting and creative expression to enhance audience and performer experiences alike, making their performances “must see” events.
The charming String Symphony No 6 in E flat Major written by the 12-year-old Mendelssohn features alongside another youthful work, and one of Elgar’s personal favourites, his Serenade for Strings. Having been performed at the funerals of Franklin D Roosevelt, John F Kennedy and Albert Einstein, and the music of mourning fittingly used worldwide in the wake of 9/11, Samuel Barber’s stirring Adagio for Strings is performed on this occasion with lighting and movement by the RIAM Chamber Orchestra.
