Three cats, two princesses, one china cup (broken); an owl, a bat, a nightingale and a frog; trickery ambition, tantrums, spells - RIAM Opera's offering this year has it all. With a total of 26 roles, demanding some very starry singing, this charming double-bill is the perfect musical vehicle to display the wonderful pool of talented singers at the Academy.
Montsalvatge's El gato con botas is a twinkling gem, a mischievous fairy tale full of luscious, vivid music and frisky characters, whilst Ravel's L'enfant et les sortilèges offers a touching glimpse of the drama and magic of everyday life for its young protagonist.
These two captivating operas awaken forgotten enchantment, allowing us to dream and play and laugh like a child again.
Sung in French and Spanish with English surtitles.
Presented in collaboration with Design for Stage and Screen, IADT Dún Laoghaire
